Warning signs were posted and water quality samples were collected at Lyman Beach after a Saturday sewage spill in Papaikou, the county said Tuesday.
According to the Wastewater Division, an estimated 67,800 gallons of untreated wastewater was discharged onto the ground and potentially into Kapue Stream as a result of a sewer blockage along Papaikou Bridge.
The blockage was cleared with a hydraulic jetter and the area was disinfected, according to the county. Wastewater Division operators turned off the pump at the Paukaa sewage pumping station during the clearing work.
The state Department of Health has been notified.
